Mutu's agent claimed this week that Roberto Mancini "strongly wants" the former Chelsea man at Eastlands. A deal was thought possible as a wage increase would be a major bonus for Mutu, who is still battling his compensation claim against Chelsea.

However, Mutu has said that he expects to remain in Italy until the end of the season and could then consider moves to either Shakhtar Donetsk or Dinamo Bucharest in his homeland.

"Will I go to Manchester City? I don't think so," Mutu told prosport.ro. "At the moment, I just want to have a successful second half of the season with Fiorentina.

"Would I ever join up with Lucescu at Shakhtar? Yes, why not. I have always respected Mircea Lucescu and appreciated what he has done for my career.

"However, I have promised that I will return to Dinamo Bucarest at the end of my career and I intend to keep that promise."
