Police said on Thursday night that they were investigating allegations that Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor sexually assaulted a young woman.
McGregor has not been arrested and in reports denied the claim as a "vile lie", but Strathclyde Police confirmed they were probing the claim.
A police spokesman said: "We can confirm we have received a complaint which is being investigated."
The 27-year-old, who has also played for Scotland, has been involved with Rangers for 11 years.
Manager Walter Smith revealed on Friday that he had no plans to leave the player out of Saturday's league game at Hamilton.
"He will still be in the plan for tomorrow," he said. "You'd need to ask to ask him how he's feeling. It's very difficult for any of us to comment on the situation as we don't know the full aspect. He will be involved in the team tomorrow and we will leave it at that."
