Galatasaray have announced the signing of Everton defender Lucas Neill on an 18-month contract, just four months after his arrival at Goodison on a free transfer.

Neill's arrival in Turkey has been announced on Galatasaray's official website and Everton have confirmed that the deal, worth a reported £750,000, will go through following Saturday's game against Manchester City.

"I am delighted to have signed with Galatasaray and play for such a big club with big ambitions in European football,'' Neill said in a statement. "Galatasaray have a fantastic squad and I am looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead.''

The news comes as something of a surprise given that Neill has started ten Premier League games for the Toffees this season, including the weekend's 2-2 draw at Arsenal, and his versatility has been a real asset for a team beset by injuries.

But the chance to join international team-mate Harry Kewell at Gala has proved too hard to resist and Neill leaves Everton having made only 15 appearances for the club.

Neill first moved to England to join Millwall in 1995 and spent spells with Blackburn and West Ham before linking up with David Moyes' side in September.
