McBreen asks to be released from Fury

January 12, 2010

North Queensland Fury striker Daniel McBreen has asked to be released from the remainder of his A-League contract with the club.

McBreen, who has already agreed a deal with the Central Coast Mariners for the 2010-11 campaign, is seeking a move to Perth Glory.

The Fury are hoping to secure Glory defender Jimmy Downey in a swap deal for their striker.

"We knew Daniel wasn't going to be here next year," Fury coach Ian Ferguson said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Perth were interested in him and we liked the look of young Jimmy Downey.

"It looks like it will work out well for everyone and hopefully we'll have Jimmy travel to Wellington with us for Friday night's match against the Phoenix."

McBreen made 21 appearances for the Fury, scoring three goals, while Downey made three appearances off the bench this season for the Glory.
