Rangers manager Walter Smith has confirmed that Kris Boyd faces hernia surgery and up to six weeks on the sidelines.
The striker will see a specialist on Tuesday after limping out of Sunday's 3-3 Scottish Cup draw at Hamilton with a groin problem. But it is already clear that the 26-year-old faces an extended spell out of the side.
Smith told the Scottish Daily Express: ''Boyd will undergo an operation as soon as possible. He will be out for up to six weeks and we will just have to cope accordingly.''
Boyd now faces a race to be fit for the Old Firm clash against Celtic at Ibrox on February 28.
