January 9, 2010

Carlos de los Cobos is poised to become the Chicago Fire's fourth coach in four seasons, according to a newspaper report.

The club is expected to introduce the former Mexican international, who played for Mexico in the 1986 World Cup, on Monday at a 12 p.m. ET news conference at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL.

The hiring was first reported by the Chicago Sun-Times on Thursday, and later confirmed for ESPN by U.S. soccer reporter Allen Hopkins.

Terms of the agreement were not immediately available.

De los Cobos recently coached El Salvador in the final phase of 2010 World Cup qualifying.

The 51 year-old coaching veteran will be the 5th coach in the Fire's history and fourth since 2006.

Information from ESPN's Allen Hopkins and blogger Charlie Corr was used in this report.
