Alexander Baumjohann has returned to Schalke on a three-and-a-half-year contract from Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich.

The clubs agreed an undisclosed fee on Saturday night for the 22-year-old midfielder, who has signed on until June 30, 2013.

Baumjohann came through the youth ranks with the Gelsenkirchen outfit before moving to Borussia Monchengladbach in 2007. He joined Bayern last year but played only three league games for the Bavarians.
