Ireland ruled out for two weeks

Manchester City midfielder Stephen Ireland will be out of action for two weeks after a scan revealed he suffered a damaged hamstring in the 3-0 victory over Wolves.

The 23-year-old was was substituted after 55 minutes at Molineux and was assessed on Tuesday morning, with the results revealing a hamstring injury.

Ireland, who was named City's player of the season for the 2008-09 campaign, has scored four goals in 22 appearances so far this season and had started both of new boss Roberto Mancini's first matches as manager.

City take on Middlesbrough in the FA Cup third round this Saturday and Ireland will miss that game, along with the Carling Cup semi-final first leg against Manchester United and league clashes with Blackburn and Everton.

The Republic of Ireland interntaional is expected to return for the second leg of the Carling Cup at Old Trafford on January 19.
