Milan express ''solidarity'' for Berlusconi after attack

December 14, 2009

AC Milan have expressed their ''solidarity and affection'' towards Silvio Berlusconi following Sunday's attack on the club owner.

The Italian prime minister is recovering at San Raffaele hospital after being hit in the face by a statuette thrown at him during a political rally in Milan.

Berlusconi suffered a fractured nose, two broken teeth and a lip injury and television news programs showed images of a bloodied Berlusconi with cuts and gashes on his face.

A statement from the club read: ''There's just one voice from Milan and all the Milan fans: solidarity and affection towards president Berlusconi.''

The 73-year-old was kept under observation in hospital and will need up to 15 days to recover.

Bloomberg report that police are holding a man identified as Massimo Tartaglia, 42, who has been undergoing psychiatric treatment for 10 years and Italian police will meet to review Berlusconi's security detail and "examine minute by minute what happened yesterday," Deputy Interior Minister Alfredo Mantovano said.
