Fernando Torres will miss Liverpool's visit to Blackburn Rovers this weekend. The striker returned to training this week after recovering from a groin injury but will not be ready for Saturday's trip to Ewood Park.
Manager Rafael Benitez was optimistic that his star striker would be fit for the league clash, as Liverpool look to capitalise on last weekend's 2-0 win over Everton in the Merseyside derby. But Torres, who has not played since Liverpool's Champions League 1-1 draw at Lyon at the beginning of November, will be forced to watch the match from the stands.
Benitez admitted that the Spain international had not completed a full training session since his return, and highlighted Wednesday's dead Champions League rubber as a potential date for Torres' comeback.
"He has been training with the team - not full training sessions but part of them," Benitez told the club website. "He's doing well but he will not be ready for this game. "He could be ready for Fiorentina. He was doing some exercises with the team and with the football but it's too soon. Maybe next week it will be easier."
