Peterborough United are refusing to comment on widespread reports that they have parted company with manager Darren Ferguson.

It is believed that Ferguson has been relieved of his duties following a 3-1 defeat to Newcastle United on Saturday that left Posh at the bottom of the Championship and four points adrift of safety after 16 games.

Ferguson, director of football Barry Fry and chief executive officer Bob Symms all refused to comment on the speculation when leaving London Road on Monday afternoon.

The club's struggles this season are in stark contrast to the success they have previously enjoyed under Ferguson, who lead Peterborough to back-to-back promotions in 2007-08 and 2008-09.

The son of Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was appointed Peterborough boss in January 2007 and has won 73 of his 145 games in charge.
