Rangers striker Steven Naismith believes his side deserved their midweek thrashing at the hands of Unirea Urziceni and reckons it contributed to their improved Clydesdale Bank Premier League performance against Hibernian on Saturday.

The Gers may only have drawn that match after Anthony Stokes cancelled out Kris Boyd's opening goal but there was a greater freedom about their attacking play that hinted at better things for Walter Smith's side.

Naismith believes the 4-1 drubbing at Ibrox four days earlier could have been the tipping point.

"We looked nervous (against Unirea) and couldn't string two passes together and we ended up with a thrashing,'' he said.

"As a few of the boys have already said, we have probably deserved that since the start of the season. But (against Hibs) the passion and attitude was there.

"The amount of chances we created was something we hadn't done in previous weeks. In any home game you've got to look at it as two points dropped. But the performance was far better than in recent games, where we haven't created as many chances.''
