The 23-year-old was substituted in the 75th minute of the match at Eastlands after complaining of dizziness and feeling unwell. The club's medical staff were unable to diagnose the problem and Ireland was taken to hospital to undergo tests.

The results came back clear and Ireland was able to return home in the early hours of Thursday morning. He will now take some time to rest before resuming training, but is expected to be available for Monday's visit of West Ham United.

A statement on the club's official website read: "Stevie Ireland is back home after being taken to hospital. The Blues' reigning player of the season was substituted ... and taken for precautionary checks after complaining of dizziness and feeling unwell. Tests were carried out on the 23-year-old and he was given the all clear."
