Bassong, a summer signing from Newcastle United, fell heavily in the second half at Stamford Bridge when challenging Nicolas Anelka and required lengthy treatment on the pitch before being carefully removed with a neck brace and oxygen.

Harry Redknapp revealed after the game he feared the defender was suffering from concussion and an examination at a hospital on Sunday night has not identified any serious problems.

Ledley King was also forced off due to a hamstring injury and both players will undergo further examination at Tottenham's own facilities.

"Sebastien Bassong was back at Spurs Lodge today for further assessment after being given the all-clear by a head and neck consultant at a hospital on Sunday evening," read a club statement. "The Cameroon international centre half was stretchered off after suffering a head injury in the second half of our fixture against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

"Ledley King will undergo a scan on his right hamstring after also being forced off with injury early on in the second half yesterday afternoon."

Tottenham also have Jonathan Woodgate and Michael Dawson on the injured list, meaning Tom Huddlestone and Vedran Corluka were both called upon to fill in at centre back following the two injuries.
