Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has hailed his "fantastic" team and insisted that the Blues can win a first Champions League title this season.

The Italian has an impressive European pedigree having guided AC Milan to victory in the 2003 and 2007 Champions League campaigns, before arriving at Stamford Bridge this summer.

But Ancelotti insists that owner Roman Abramovich hired him to win every competition, not just the European holy grail that has eluded a string of Blues bosses before him.

"It is not really that the club asked me to win the Champions League," Ancelotti said. "They asked me to win the Champions League, the Premiership, to win the FA Cup, to win the Carling Cup."

The Blues take on Porto at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday in their first European game of the season, and Ancelotti is confident that his side can finally taste Champions league glory come May's final in Madrid.

"I think that for Chelsea it is important to be in this competition and to think that we have the possibility to win," he said. "This is not easy because it is a very particular competition the Champions League.

"We have to do try to do our best to win and I think that we have the possibility because we have a very strong team and fantastic players, fantastic mental attitude. But we have to think match by match."
