The No. 9 California women's soccer team beat SMU 4-2 on Sunday afternoon, scoring 2:22 into the match. The Golden Bears, who are now 5-1-0 overall, tacked on three more goals to overpower the Mustangs (1-4-0) in Moraga as part of the Saint Mary's Fall Soccer Classic.
Sophomore Katrin Omarsdottir dribbled in from 35 yards out to beat the SMU keeper with a shot to the right post. Omarsdottir helped with the second goal, which occurred six minutes later, dishing an assist to junior forward Alex Morgan. Omarsdottir had a through pass to Morgan, who beat the SMU keeper for her fifth goal of the year.
Shortly thereafter, Morgan earned her sixth goal, this one unassisted, at 15:51, with a shot from 18 yards out to the far post. SMU's Leslie Briggs pulled back a goal with a left-footed shot as Cal headed into the intermission with a 3-1 lead.
Cal extended its lead further in the 80th minute when redshirt junior forward Lisa Kevorkian scored from eight yards out off. SMU's Kenzie Scovill scored a late consolation goal.
