Cadamarteri: We can challenge for Europe

Danny Cadamarteri sees no reason why Dundee United cannot challenge for Europe after kicking off the season in style.

The former Huddersfield Town striker scored twice on his SPL debut on Monday in United's 2-0 success over Hearts at Tannadice and he is keen to continue that winning feeling against St Mirren this weekend.

"We've got off to a flying start compared to last season when it was well documented we didn't make the best of starts," said Cadamarteri. "Looking back, I think you could say that probably contributed to the fact that we didn't make it into Europe.

"The gaffer had been stressing to all the lads prior to the Hearts game just how important it was to begin the new campaign with a victory.

"Now it's simply a case of full steam ahead, keeping our foot on the gas and trying to go on a bit of a run from here with St Mirren next Saturday.

"It's early days. We want to try to get into the top six first and then try to push for third or fourth. With the players we have at our disposal it's possible."
