The Tigers are keen to bolster their ranks before the start of the Premier League season and are hoping to capitalise on the uncertainty on Tyneside by snaring one of their better players.

The 31-year-old is keen to leave after a disastrous season culminated in the Magpies' relegation to the Championship.

But with no sign of any progress in the Toon's takeover saga and no manager in place, Brown accepts it may be a drawn out pursuit.

"We've gone as far as a bid for Habib Beye, but it was received negatively," Brown told the Hull Daily Mail. "However, we're awaiting discussions at the Newcastle end with regards to the possibility of him moving."

He added: "There is some mileage in it yet, but what we're dealing with at Newcastle is an unknown quantity. We don't know who is going to be the manager and what players that new man would want. We're in the dark a little bit at the minute."
