Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson has insisted it will take a huge transfer fee to lure Gary Cahill away from the club.

The central defender, a £5m signing from Aston Villa in January 2008, has won many plaudits for his performances at the Reebok Stadium and has been tipped by some to win full England honours.

The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to clubs higher up in the Premier League table, most notably Arsenal, but it is suggested that Megson will not accept less than £20m for a player he believes to be one of the most promising in the country.

"Gary is under contract and we are currently in the process of negotiating a new, improved deal for him," said Megson.

"He's the best young centre-half in the country by an absolute street and I've been delighted with him again this year.

"I want to build the team around him for the next few seasons.

"I can understand why the big clubs are interested in Gary, but it's going to take an offer over and above what we received for Nicolas Anelka from Chelsea."

Anelka joined Chelsea for £15m, also in January 2008.
