Cummins appointed interim coach of Toronto FC

April 29, 2009

TORONTO -- Toronto FC has hired Chris Cummins as interim head coach, filling the void left by the resignation of John Carver over the weekend.

The 37-year-old Cummins joined the MLS team in May 2008. He had been working as an assistant along with Nick Dasovic under Carver.

Dasovic is being promoted to first assistant.

Cummins and Dasovic ran the team Sunday when Toronto FC defeated Kansas City 1-0. Cummins also took center stage the game before, a 1-0 win over Chivas USA, when Carver watched from the stands. The 44-year-old Carver did not return to the sidelines.

The 40-year-old Dasovic is a former Canadian national team player with 63 caps. He has also served as a Canadian national team assistant coach and Olympic team head coach.

Toronto (3-2-2) hosts the Columbus Crew (0-2-4) on Saturday.
