U.S. U-17s defeat Canada to clinch World Cup berth

The U.S. U-17 men's national team defeated Canada 4-2 Thursday in Group A play at the CONCACAF U-17 Championship. The win assures the U.S. team of qualification to the U-17 World Cup, scheduled to take place in Nigeria from Oct. 24 to Nov. 15.

Against Canada, the U.S. received two more goals from Jack McInerney, who took his tournament tally to a team-leading four goals. Sebastian Lletget and Joseph Gyau also got on the scoresheet for the U.S.

The U.S. rounds out Group A play against Honduras on April 25 at 4 p.m. local time (7 p.m. ET). The semifinals will be played on April 29, with the final and third-place match played on May 2.
