April 23, 2009

Mexico will play two friendlies against Venezuela and Guatemala in June as they warm up for the CONCACAF Gold Cup and the final rounds of World Cup qualification.

Mexico, who lie fourth in the final round of the CONCACAF qualifying zone, will play Venezuela on June 24 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta before meeting Guatemala at the Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego four days later.

Mexico, who have recorded one win and two defeats in the final round of World Cup qualifying, start their Gold Cup campaign on July 5 against Nicaragua.

Venezuela lie eighth in the South American qualifying zone on 13 points after 12 rounds, while Guatemala failed to make the final stage in the CONCACAF Zone.

Before the friendlies, El Tri will travel to El Salvador on June 6 and host Trinidad and Tobago on June 10.

Mexico recently re-appointed former Atletico Madrid boss Javier Aguirre as coach in place of Sven-Goran Eriksson.
