Raul wants one last international chance

February 10, 2009

Record-breaking Spain striker Raul has spoken of his desire to end his time in the international wilderness, even if it is just to represent his country on one last occasion.

Raul is Spain's leading all-time goalscorer with 44 goals and is one of only two players to have made a century of appearances for the Iberian nation, with his record of 102 caps second only to former goalkeeper Andoni Zubizarreta (126).

The 31-year-old hitman has been out of favour since 2006, though, with first Luis Aragones and then current coach Vicente del Bosque both deciding to ignore the Real Madrid veteran.

Speaking to television channel Cuatro ahead of Spain's friendly against England, Raul admitted he is eager to taste international football again.

"To return to the national team is like a dream, like something that is far off," he said. "I would like to put on the national team shirt, at least one more time."
