Brazilian side Palmeiras are trying to sign Villarreal midfielder Edmilson, according to vice-president Gilberto Cipullo.
The 32-year-old has a contract with the Primera Liga side until June 2010, but he has not been a regular starter under coach Manuel Pelegrini, which could hasten a return to his homeland.
Cipullo confirmed Palmeiras had made an offer for the 2002 World Cup winner.
"We got in touch with Villarreal and we are waiting for an answer from them. He is interested as it is a good project," Cipullo told Record radio station.
Former Sao Paulo, Olympique Lyonnais and Barcelona star Edmilson commented: "I am happy to know that a Brazilian giant is interested in me, that is always welcome.
"I have a one-and-a-half-year contract still with Villarreal. If I receive an interesting offer I could return, but both teams have to reach an agreement."
