Brazilian midfielder Ze Roberto hopes his spell at Flamengo could pave the way for a call-up to the national team.
The 28-year-old former Botafogo, Kashima Reysol and Benfica player has been signed on a year-long load deal from German side Schalke 04.
Ze Roberto joined Schalke 04 in January last year but made only three appearances for the Bundesliga side and had previously declared his desire to revive his career elsewhere.
"I am going to the (World) Cup," said Ze Roberto. "That is my aim and one I want to achieve.
"Everything depends on me and I believe this will be a great year for me.
"I want to be available as soon as possible, but I am not going to hurry. We have to be patient but I also do not want to wait too long. I am here to be a champion and to win titles.
"I know I have to be professional. Nobody has said anything bad about my football but about my behaviour as I did not arrive on time to some training sessions there (Germany).
"I am not child, I am 28 and I know what I have to do. I have grown up and I am here to work hard and not let down anybody."
