The Uruguayan Football Association have called an indefinite halt to Apertura action following Sunday's riot after the match between Danubio and Nacional.
Groups of rival fans invaded the pitch after the top-of-the-table clash, which was won 1-0 by Danubio, and the situation was not calmed for 15 minutes.
AUF president Jose Luis Corbo said: "We have decided to cancel all top-flight action as a precaution following Sunday's problems and previous troubles we have experienced. We think we have to calm things down.
"There's no date set for the resumption. We will analyse that only after we find measures to ensure security at the games.
"There's absolutely no chance of action next weekend."
