Podolski left out in the cold at Bayern Munich

November 15, 2008

Lukas Podolski's future at Bayern Munich is again in doubt after he was left out of Jurgen Klinsmann's squad for Saturday's game against Borussia Monchengladbach.

Klinsmann has insisted the 23-year-old striker is not fit, but Podolski had defied his coach's diagnosis to return to training yesterday and showed no signs of the back problems which kept him out of last weekend's game against Schalke.

"Lukas is not an option for Gladbach," said Klinsmann. "We have agreed that with him and it is not a problem.

"He has only just started training again. On Sunday, he will join the national team and (Germany coach) Joachim Low will judge whether he can play against England."

Podolski has frequently been linked with a move away from Bayern due to a lack of playing time and what he has also felt is often a lack of respect from the club's hierarchy.

Podolski's absence leaves Klinsmann with just two strikers in his squad in Miroslav Klose and Luca Toni.

And the Bayern coach reiterated that they are his first choice forwards: "The way things stand today, he (Podolski) is not getting ahead of Toni and Miro Klose."
