Wenger: Rosicky to return in eight weeks

November 12, 2008

Arsene Wenger says he expects midfielder Tomas Rosicky to return inside two months after the Arsenal player underwent further surgery on a tendon injury that has sidelined him since January.

The 28-year-old suffered the injury in an FA Cup tie against Newcastle on January 26 but he has made slower progress than expected after originally having surgery back in May.

Wenger watched his young stars reach the last eight of the Carling Cup with a 3-0 win over Wigan at the Emirates stadium on Tuesday night and then hoped Rosicky would be back in action within six to eight weeks.

Wenger declared: "The situation looks very positive. They have taken a lot of scar tissue out of his leg and the vibes I got from the surgeon were very positive. I think he could return between six to eight weeks."

Rosicky underwent the routine revision surgery in Germany and will spend at least a few weeks convalescing there.

The injury has restricted Rosicky to just 44 first-team appearances for the Gunners since joining from Borussia Dortmund in May 2006.
