Weekend loss costs Roussey St Etienne job

November 10, 2008

St Etienne have sacked coach Laurent Roussey on Monday after the Ligue 1 side dropped into the relegation zone with a fifth successive league defeat.

The French club did not name a replacement.

"St Etienne have decided to reshuffle their sporting organisation and to relieve Laurent Roussey of his duties," the club said in a statement.

St Etienne, who have won a record 10 French titles, are 18th in the 20-team league with 10 points from 13 games.

They lost 3-0 to Stade Rennes on Sunday, their third home defeat in a row in Ligue 1.

Roussey was appointed at the start of last season and he led St Etienne to a fifth-place finish.
