Chelsea game under threat as rain pours in Rome
Chelsea's Champions League game against Roma on Tuesday night is under threat as a result of severe weather in the Italian capital, according to sources in Italy.
Rain and thunderstorms have battered the capital city all day and Italian agency ASCA is reporting that proceedings may be halted by UEFA and referee Luis Medina Cantalejo if the pitch is deemed unplayable.
Last week, the Italian side were forced to reschedule a Serie A match against Sampdoria after relentless heavy rain at the Stadio Olimpico.
Torrential rain in Marseille has also threatened the Group D match between Olympique Marseille and PSV Eindhoven.
L'Equipe reports that a waterlogged pitch could well delay kick-off by 24 hours and a final decision on whether the match can kick off on schedule at 1945 GMT or must be postponed will be made at 1815 GMT, the French club said on its website.
