Nantes coach Baup concerned over form

September 24, 2008

Nantes coach Elie Baup described his side's situation as "very severe" after they were knocked out of the Coupe de la Ligue at the last-32 stage by amateur side Creteil.

Les Canaris have won just one of their six matches in Ligue 1 this season and would have seen the cup as a welcome distraction.

But Baup's men were humbled 1-0 by Creteil, who play in the National League - striker Madjid Bouabdellah scored the goal for the team for the Paris suburbs in the 70th minute.

And now the former Toulouse boss admits his side are in a tight spot.

"Our situation is very severe. We need more commitment," he told the Nantes official site, www.fcnantes.com.

"When it comes to the result, this type of match is always a pitfall. But with it we've made a rod for our own back."

Baup left out several senior players for the game, but refused to blame rotation for the defeat.

Instead he insisted that those on the the pitch could have given more, and said that people at the club should be upset with themselves.

"No, I don't regret my choices, just the attitude on the pitch," he said.

"We should not accept defeat. We should be more appalled! Our style and substance need to change."
