Olympique Marseille defender Gael Givet has expressed his frustration at his lack of first-team opportunities and admitted his spell on the sidelines has damaged his confidence.
The 26-year-old France international was linked with a transfer away from the Stade Velodrome in the summer but a proposed move to Greek side Panathinaikos fell through, consequently Givet has been surplus to requirements after OM signed centre-back pairing Vitorino Hilton and Elamine Eebate.
''I train every day but I do not play,'' Givet told L'Equipe. ''It is a painful position to be in. I am disappointed and frustrated. The less you play, the less confidence you have. Finding my name scratched off the list for the Champions League was a huge blow.''
The former Monaco player also said: ''I really wanted to go [to Panathinaikos] but the problem was it was not clear. You never know what can happen over there. It was not a financial matter. I even lost money when I left Monaco (for Marseille in 2007).''
