Coach sacked by not-so glorious Kazakhstan

September 15, 2008

Arno Pijpers has been sacked as coach of England's World Cup qualifying rivals Kazakhstan.

The country's football federation dispensed with Pijpers' services following back-to-back World Cup qualifying defeats to Croatia and Ukraine.

"How long should we endure it?" the Kazakhstan FA secretary general Sayan Khamitzhanov said.

"We in the federation are ashamed of the existing situation and we all must apologise to the country's fans for it. We will start seeking a new coach today."

Dutchman Pijpers took over Kazakhstan in January 2006.
