Louisville 2-3 OSU: Cards fall short

September 12, 2008

The 26th-ranked University of Louisville women's soccer team battled for 90 minutes in a physical, hard fought match, but were unable to pull the upset of No. 14 Oklahoma State at Cardinal Park.

"We played extremely well tonight but unfortunately didn't get the result we had hoped for," said Louisville head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes.

Louisville (1-2-1) struck first through Mallory Lampson after just four minutes. It was Lampson's first goal of the season and marked the second time this season that the Cards struck for a goal in the first five minutes of a match.

The Cowgirls (5-0-0) evened the count in the 10th minute when a cross by Kasey Langdon found Kyndall Treadwell for her fifth goal of the season.

Hermann Award finalist Yolanda Odenyo gave the Cowgirls the lead for good when she scored her fourth goal of the season in the 28th minute. Melinda Mercado extended OSU' s lead to 3-1 entering the half. Lindsay Boling pulled a goal back for Louisville in the second half but it wasn't enough.
