Internazionale midfielder Dejan Stankovic will be sidelined for at least three weeks after suffering an injury on international duty.
The Serbia star, who turned 30 on Thursday, limped out of his country's game against France after hurting his right knee.
However, although Stankovic will not be back in action until next month at the earliest, Inter have confirmed that his injury is less serious than first feared.
"The injury sustained by Dejan Stankovic in the opening minutes of last night's World Cup qualifier between France and Serbia in Paris is less serious than first thought," read a statement on the club website www.inter.it.
"On his return to Italy late Thursday morning, the midfielder underwent medical tests at the San Matteo Hospital in Pavia.
"The results of the tests, performed under the supervision of Inter's chief of medical staff Franco Combi, have confirmed that the player has suffered a 1st grade sprain of the internal collateral ligament of the right knee."
