Peru forward Jefferson Farfan is set to make his Bundesliga debut for Schalke in Saturday's derby against Borussia Dortmund.
The 23-year-old, who signed from PSV Eindhoven for a reported 10million euros in June, has yet to feature in the Bundesliga after dislocating his shoulder in the Champions League qualifier against Atletico Madrid.
Farfan is back in training, though, and Schalke boss Fred Rutten is positive about the player's chances of featuring on Saturday, saying: "He can play."
A debut looks less likely for Holland midfielder Orlando Engelaar, who also picked up an injury against Atletico and now rates himself as 90% fit.
"That's not enough for a game like Dortmund away," he told www.schalke04.de. "The next few days will show whether I'll be fully fit on Saturday. I'm still experiencing problems, though, especially when I shoot."
Rutten could have further injury problems in goal against Dortmund.
Already without first-choice stopper Manuel Neuer, he now looks set to go into Saturday's game without his replacement, Mathias Schober, who suffered a calf strain in training earlier this week.
Rutten said: "Just a few days after Manuel Neuer broke a metatarsal at the beginning of July I told him there was no need to worry.
"We have four really good goalkeepers at Schalke. Ralf Fahrmann and Mohamed Amsif also have my full confidence."
