The New England Revolution announced that forward Adam Cristman will undergo season-ending surgery on his right big toe Thursday.
Cristman, 23, will miss the remainder of the 2008 season while he rehabilitates after surgery.
"Adam has been in pain for much of the season, but played through it as we had other injuries to our team," said Revolution vice president of player personnel Michael Burns. "His pain became so severe that Adam could not continue to play any longer. We are all hopeful this surgery will rectify the problem and Adam can concentrate on his rehabilitation process to prepare for the 2009 season."
Cristman is currently tied for the team lead in goals with six, and added one assist in 18 appearances in MLS regular-season games. Overall, Cristman made 21 appearances in all competitions in 2008.
