Chelsea full-back Paulo Ferreira is understood to be in talks over a possible move to West Ham.
The 29-year-old has slipped down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge following the arrival of compatriot Jose Bosingwa this summer and the Hammers are short of options at the back.
The Portugal international, who joined the Blues in a £13.2million deal from Porto in 2004, signed a new five-year deal in February, but Hammers' boss Alan Curbishley is reported to be interested in bringing him to Upton Park.
New Swiss winger Valon Behrami has had to fill in at right-back so far this season, while the club have money to spend following Anton Ferdinand's £8m switch to Sunderland, according to Sky Sports News.
Meanwhile, West Ham defender George McCartney looks set to return to Sunderland.
Last season's runner up for Hammer of the Year, only recently signed a new West Ham contract but is reported to be having a medical on Wearside.
