Senegal coach Ndiaye given contract extension

DAKAR, Aug 5 (Reuters) - Senegal coach Lamine Ndiaye has been given a brief contract extension for two more World Cup qualifiers, the Senegal sports ministry said on Tuesday.

Ndiaye, who took over during January's African Nations Cup finals, will be in charge for qualifiers against Algeria and the Gambia in September and October, the news agency APS reported.

He has steered Senegal through their opening four World Cup Group Six qualifiers in June in which the west Africans won twice and drew the other two matches to top the standings.

Senegal next visit Libya in a friendly on Aug. 20 before travelling to Algeria for a potentially decisive second round qualifier on Sept. 5 as they bid to reach the 2010 finals.

The 12 group winners and eight best runners-up will advance to the third round of African zone qualifying.

Ndiaye took over as coach after Polish manager Henryk Kasperczak unexpectedly quit during the Nations Cup finals.
