Rodrigo Palacio expects to be fit for Boca Junior's Apertura opener against Gimnasia y Esgrima this weekend as he recovers from a groin strain.
However, Palacio, who has been linked with Barcelona and Lazio this summer, may still find himself on the sidelines as Carlos Ischia could choose to save him for the meeting with Arsenal in the Recopa Sudamericana next week.
If Ischia does indeed leave Palacio out, Lucas Castroman is ready to step in.
The former Lazio winger, who signed for Boca in January, is chomping at the bit for an opportunity to show he is still the same player who used to star for Velez Sarsfield.
'I hope I can back to the form I used to have at Velez,' Castroman told TyC Sports. 'Pre-season was great. I'm physically fit. I want to start, secure my place in the starting XI and help the team win.'
Meanwhile, Boca are in talks with Estudiantes to sign midfielder Ivan Moreno y Fabianesi.
Boca have offered US$500,000 to purchase 50% of the player's rights, with a commitment to buy the remaining 50% if the player is not sold overseas within the next year.
