Monaco defender Sylvain Monsoreau is set to complete a transfer to St Etienne on Friday.
The two clubs agreed a deal on Thursday and the central defender will finalise the move after a medical, according to a statement on Monaco's official website
St Etienne have been searching for defensive cover all summer and thought they had got their man last week when Nancy's Sebastien Puygrenier claimed he wanted to move to the Stade Geoffrey-Guichard.
However, he performed a last-minute U-turn, leaving Les Verts just two weeks to find a suitable replacement before the start of the new Ligue 1 season.
Monsoreau joined Monaco from Lyon in the summer of 2006, having previously played for Sochaux.
