BIRMINGHAM, England -- American goalkeeper Brad Friedel signed a three-year contract with English club Aston Villa on Saturday.
The 37-year-old left Blackburn for an undisclosed fee, one day after Blackburn signed former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson from Tottenham.
Friedel, who has made 82 appearances for the United States, has previously played for the Columbus Crew, Galatasaray and Brondby before moving to England in 1997, when he joined Liverpool.
He spent three seasons at Anfield, before moving to Blackburn, where he played 287 matches.
Friedel replaces Scott Carson, who spent last season at Villa on loan from Liverpool but has since joined West Bromwich Albion.
