New players shine as Schalke beat Bahrain

Schalke, without their AWOL defender Rafinha, defeated the Bahrain national team 4-1 on Tuesday night with two new signings finding the back of the net.

Dutch midfielder Orlando Engelaar scored his first goal for the Royal Blues in the opening minute of the game following a transfer from FC Twente before Jefferson Farfan added a second minutes later.

Halil Altintop tucked away a penalty before Kevin Kuranyi completed the scoring one minute from time on his first appearance of pre-season.

Hamburg were even more convincing against Lubeck. Anton Putsilo, Anis Ben-Hatira (2), Mohamed Zidan and Tunay Torun scored the goals in a 5-0 win for Martin Jol's side at their northern Germany neighbours.

Meanwhile, Arminia Bielefeld's preparations suffered a setback as they were beaten 2-0 by German second division side Hansa Rostock.

Gledson and Kevin Schindler scored the goals for the north Germans who were relegated from the Bundesliga last season.
