Swansea reject Martinez rumours

July 7, 2008

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has strenuously denied that Roberto Martinez is in the running to become Sir Alex Ferguson's assistant manager at Manchester United.

Carlos Queiroz, the current number two at Old Trafford, has indicated he could soon leave the club to take charge of the Portugal national side.

Reports claimed Swans boss Martinez was in the frame for a move to the Barclays Premier League champions, but Jenkins said: 'It's nonsense.'

He added in the Swansea Evening Post: 'We haven't heard anything and I know for a fact there's nothing in these stories.'

Meanwhile, Barnsley manager Simon Davey stressed he has unfinished business at Oakwell after also being linked with the post.

He told Barnsley's official website:'It is flattering to be linked with a club of such stature, but I have a job here.

'We must be doing something right if I'm being linked with jobs like this.

'We still have a long way to go at Oakwell and we're all looking forward to the new season.'
