Costa Rica face injury woes ahead of qualifying

June 2, 2008

Jervis Drummond has withdrawn from the Costa Rica squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Grenada, while Ronald Gomez is doubtful.

The Saprissa duo picked up injuries in the second leg of the Clausura final against arch rivals Alajuelense, which saw their team lift the trophy for the fourth time in a row on Sunday.

Drummond will be out for a least three weeks with an injury to his left shoulder, according to team doctor Willy Galvez.

Gomez, meanwhile, will undergo tests on Monday to determine the seriousness of his knee injury.

Coach Hernan Medford had already been forced into one change, with Brujas midfielder Danny Fonseca replacing Alajuelense defender Harold Wallace, who has a knee injury.

The Ticos travel to Grenada on June 14 in the first leg of the CONCACAF zone's second round.

The return match will be played a week later in San Jose.
