BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. -- Former Arsenal Ladies coach Emma Hayes was selected Thursday to lead the new Chicago Women's Professional Soccer team.

Hayes' resume includes coaching at all levels of soccer in both the United States and England.

"It's a real honor to be back in the United States," Hayes said. "Although I've been working with the best club in England and perhaps the world, this challenge is an exciting one. This is a dream come true."

While at Arsenal, the club won the UEFA Women's Cup and the FA Women's Premiere League Cup in 2007. In the United States, Hayes worked for two years coaching Iona College and another two years with the W-League's Long Island Lady Riders.

Chicago Women's Professional Soccer will begin in April 2009. The team will play at Toyota Park with a 20-game season from April to August. Chicago's team will get a name the first week in June.
