Dickie Best, George's father, died a hero, his family has said.

They were at his bedside when he died at the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald, near Belfast, where he was admitted a month ago. He was aged 88.

A statement by his only surviving son and four daughters said: 'He was an irreplaceable father whose bravery, integrity, wisdom and above all love shaped our lives.'
