Nigeria advances to quarterfinals with win over Benin

SEKONDI, Ghana -- John Obi Mikel and Yakubu Aiyegbeni scored to lead Nigeria over Benin 2-0 Tuesday night and into the quarterfinals of the African Cup of Nations.

Ivory Coast, which already was assured of advancing, defeated Mali 3-0 on goals by Didier Drogba, Marc Zoro and Boubacar Sanogo.

Ivory Coast (3-0) won Group B and plays Group A runner-up Guinea on Sunday, while Nigeria (1-1-1) meets host Ghana.

Mali (1-1-1) finished behind Nigeria on goal difference and was eliminated. Benin (0-3) was last in the group.
