PARIS, Jan 27 (Reuters) - Girondins Bordeaux's title hopes suffered a blow when they lost 1-0 at mid-table Lorient with a late penalty in Ligue 1 on Sunday.
Forward Christophe Jallet converted the spot-kick in the 77th minute of a dull affair after Algeria striker Rafik Saifi was brought down in the box by Brazilian defender Henrique.
Second-placed Bordeaux, who had won their last four matches, showed little intiative and rarely threatened the hosts.
The result lifted Lorient up to seventh.
An injury-time freekick from France striker Karim Benzema earned Olympique Lyon a 1-1 draw at neighbours St Etienne that took the six-times champions four points clear at the top of Ligue 1 on Sunday.
A blunder from France goalkeeper Gregory Coupet enabled forward Batefimbi Gomis to open the scoring for St Etienne just before halftime but Benzema struck back with his 15th league goal this season virtually on the final whistle.
Lyon move to 46 points from 23 games, one ahead of Girondins Bordeaux.
