ACCRA, Jan 16 (Reuters) - Ghana's Asamoah Gyan is free to play in the opening match of the African Nations Cup on Sunday despite being sent-off in his last competitive international, the Confederation of African Football said on Wednesday.
The Italian-based striker was shown a red card against Brazil in Dortmund in the second round of the World Cup finals 18 months ago.
Ghana have not played a competitive match since, skipping the qualification campaign for the Nations Cup finals as the host country.
The Confederation of African Football said they had received no notification from world governing body FIFA over any suspension.
